About Swallowfield Pre-School

In general

Swallowfield Pre-School is set in a stunning location with fields, a park, a copse and a multi-purpose games court in all immediately accessible to the Pre-School.  We have a beautiful garden, patio area and mud pit – all great favourites with the children.  Inside, we have a dedicated messy play and craft area, a home corner and maths and discovery stations.

We provide opportunities for children to access all areas of the EYFS curriculum on a daily basis, though careful planning for their development and for the individual needs of each individual child.  Each day the main areas are transformed to fit the themes and topics of the week and incorporate role play, literacy, fine and gross motor activities, access to technology, a range of physical challenges and puzzles and games areas.

Swallowfield Pre-School offers a wide variety of learning through play experiences including freely selective play and adult led activities. We include outdoor play in all sessions, whatever the weather!

Children are offered a healthy snack and parents are asked to provide a packed lunch each day which children enjoy as a group before being collected.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, are a fully inclusive setting and have been rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted.

Our approach

We encourage self-sufficiency, good behaviour, communication and friendship.

We provide opportunities for the children to play, learn, think, explore and discover in an abundance of different ways.

We embrace the ideas and interests of each child and provide support and encouragement to help them reach their individual potential; we work in partnership with families and other professionals to achieve this.

We instil confidence in the children and prepare them for the transition to the next stage of their learning and development.

Visitors, experiences & visits

Alongside core and continuous activities we provide opportunities for the children in our care to access a range of stimulating and exciting experiences.

We welcome visitors to the Pre-School to share knowledge and skills and look forward to meeting visiting animals.

Outside play and learning is an integral part of our provision and together with regular cooking activities and music and movement sessions, helps promote an interesting and motivating environment.

We also undertake regular nature walks in the surrounding areas and venture in to the village to discover more about the world around us.

We welcome our children and their families in a series of annual events, including our summer sports day, biannual jumble sales and Christmas production. Parents are invited to support the Pre-School at these events and are welcome at regular coffee mornings. Parents and carers also help in the setting, with activities ranging from preparing morning snacks to making hand printed tea towels for gifts.
